This year's Carolyn Sauer-Adams Scholarship recipient is violinist Alyssa Orantes! The scholarship financially supports Black and Latinx college students: you can read more about the memorial scholarship here.
An active performer, Alyssa Orantes has served as concertmaster of FSU’s University Philharmonia Orchestra during the past two seasons and was featured as soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Suite from Swan Lake last year. She has soloed with the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras, the Maitland Symphony Orchestra, and the Young Artists Youth Orchestra with performances taking her around the globe including Carnegie Hall, Vienna, Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai. She is currently a junior at Florida State University where she studies with Dr. Shannon Thomas, and has participated in Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival for two summers, studying with Dr. Carolyn Huebl.
Alyssa wrote about her experiences, saying:
The MusicBridges Scholarship allowed me to study at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Vermont, where I worked side-by-side with individuals equally as driven as I was to expand our knowledge and gain performance opportunities. At GMCMF, I worked intensively with new individual instructors and chamber coaches who were able to expand my perspectives and give me extra knowledge into approaching new repertoire. GMCMF really helped me to shape my musicianship as well as give me fun experiences to enjoy while I was there.
